Beverly Beach second homes: a year of home watch from afar
Most houses in Beverly Beach are second homes or seasonal homes, owned by people who live somewhere else for much of the year. The town is small, the road is A1A, and the weather comes from two directions.
Winter and spring: the season people come
From January into April many owners are in town, or have family or renters in the house. It is the easiest stretch of the year to see the place for yourself.
Summer: heat, rain and wind
When the owners leave, the yard keeps growing, palm fronds come down in every storm, and sand drifts against garage doors on the ocean side. A set of photos each month keeps your picture of the place current.
Fall: the peak of storm season
August to October brings the busiest weeks of hurricane season. A1A through this stretch sits close to the dunes, so photos before a storm and again once the road reopens count for more here than they do inland.
Oceanfront and Intracoastal homes need different views
On the ocean side, the dune and the beach face sit behind the house; on the Intracoastal side, the yard and any dock face the water. On those sides, a set taken from the open grounds, or a flight overhead, fills in what the road leaves out.
Coming back
A set a week before you return tells you whether the yard, the screens or a loose shutter need a call ahead of your arrival.
