A1A, storms and Beverly Beach: planning photos around the road
Every house in Beverly Beach is reached from A1A, the coastal road that runs between the ocean and the Intracoastal. When the road closes, nobody gets in, and that shapes how an owner far away plans around a storm.
One road along the dunes
A1A through Beverly Beach and Flagler Beach runs close to the beach. Storms passing offshore have pushed surf and sand across it and closed sections of it for days at a time.
Get the before set early
Photos have to be taken while the road is open and the storm is still days away. Waiting until the last day risks an evacuation order or a closed road.
The after set waits for the road
Once the county lifts its orders and A1A reopens, an after set shows the house, the yard and the dune as they stand. On this stretch that can come later than on the mainland.
What to look at in the two sets
- The roof line and any shutters
- Sand against doors, steps and the drive
- Palm fronds and limbs in the yard
- The dune walkover and the beach side of an oceanfront home
- The dock or seawall on the Intracoastal side
